Subject: BW5 2003 Date: 16 June 2003 17:30 Just a note to thank all those Clubs whose members supported our race this year, and to say how sorry we were to miss those who had been in the past but didn't make it this year for whatever reason. For the first time this year, we created a prize for the Club which gained most points on our simple scoring system. Affiliated runners scored 50 points for First place down to 1 point for 50th. No divisions, (male/female, vets/adult etc.) just simple order on the road. The Winners of the Team Trophy for 2003 were Southampton Running Club, with 224 points. Second were Wessex Road Runners, with 201 points. These two teams provided the overall top 4 finishers, Robert Bentley (WRR), Robert Thompson, Alan Doney (both SRC) and David Seymour (WRR). Wessex Road Runners provided our overall winner for the second year in succession, but Southampton had slightly more strength in depth. The race seemed to be a success again, but it's difficult to organise and to "pick up vibes" at the same time. If any Club would like to give me some feedback on how we could improve, I'd be delighted to hear from them. For example, I hear a lot about 10K races being the standard these days. Is our 5-miler OK as it is, or should we look to extend it to 10K? One thing we could definitely improve was our computing of the team result! We didn't get it together in time to give out the prize, so I'd be grateful if someone from SRC could contact me to let me know where to deliver it! (We'll get it right next year!) I hope we will see a lot of your runners again next year. We are targeting June 27th, but a lot depends upon whether there are other races scheduled. Please look up the date on our website, www.bw5.freeuk.com, where you will soon also find this year's results, if you can't read the attachment. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
