Race Report
This evening duathlon organised by Team Feat was billed as a back to basics race and a chance to to an evening event in a great
location.
Southampton AC was well represented with myself (Owen) and Ralph for the men and Hannah, Lucy and Vicki for the ladies. The race started
with a 2 mile off road run from Beaulieu road station. Track was a mixture of sandy paths and a loop round a field, one hill to speak of. I was in 2nd place for this stage about 20sec behind a guy in Team Feat kit. In the ladiies Hannah was the first into transition one.
The basic transition of bike and running shoes laying on the ground rather than racking worked fine and we were off on the 14 mile 2 lap bike course. The route took us from Beaulieu Rd station towards the motor musueam but turn left at Leygreen Farm and follow the road to Ipley cross where it was another left to bring us back to Beaulieu rd station. Not a flat course but on quiet roads and other than the turns a course on which you could settle down into a good pace for most of it. I soon caught and passed the run leader and pulled out a comfortable gap. He was also passed by another Team Feat teammate. Taking a sneaky look behind during the Ipley cross turn on the 2nd lap I could not see anyone behind so felt comfortable coming into T2. In the womens race Hannah had been caught and passed by a stronger biker but managed to keep her in sight and came into T2 within 30sec of her.
The 2nd run was the same course as before (although someone seemed to have made the hill steeper). I could afford to manage the distance back to 2nd place. On my run down to the finish Hannah and the leading woman were heading out on their loop. Hannah about 10m behind and looking strong. she took the lead soon after I saw them to make it a S.A.C win in both the mens and ladies. Lucy also made the womens podium as 3rd place woman after a strong bike and run.
Overall a successful evening and an event we all enjoyed. Well run and organised by Team Feat and a good atmosphere from all of the competitors and marshals.
