In an attempt to stay one step ahead of other clubs' home fixture's efficiency Team Southampton introduces 'Live Results' for 2008.
The idea behind live results is as the results are received from the timekeepers they are computerised as usual and printed to be put on the noticeboard. During printing the updated results are also uploaded to the internet and can be accessed by any modern (gprs capable) phone.
To view the results live during a competition simply point your phone's internet browser to http://www.teamsouthampton.co.uk/liveresults (look for a world icon and then something like a 'go to' option.) It doesn't stop there though, the live results can also be accessed from any internet capable device (e.g. the computer you're sitting at) so the full results can be seen before they would traditionally be posted on the internet or can be accessed by friends / family around the world.
If you click the link above you will see the test data I have entered. If you are viewing this webpage before 28th June this will be similar to the results of the NYAL at Eton in early May. Note that some of the Eton results will be wrong on Live Results, e.g. missing relay times, it is just there as a demonstration.
Live results offers:
- The number of events scored and the number remaining in the match.
- The current match standings
- An output of the event results available
This will be updated within minutes of results being received from the timekeepers and can be reloaded at any time by pressing the 'Refresh' link (or of course using your Browser's refresh button)
Remember to bookmark the link in your phone today, the address will not change between matches.
Live results will first be field tested during the Southern Men's League match on 28th June and then fully deployed for our home National Young Athlete's fixture on 20th July.
Charges: Mobile phone operators charge you by the amount of data you download (the bytes) or give you a package allowing you to download a certain amount of data per month. With this in mind I have made the pages as small as possible so the charge will be negligable. There is no internet connection at the track so I'm having to use my phone to upload the data too!
