Award Winners 2008 Announced

Outstanding Performance 2008

Becca Carozzi

A very successful season where Becca achieved consistently high standards of performance. In her strongest event - the 400m Hurdles - Becca won the SEAA U20 Champs and was 3rd in both the English Schools and the England Athletics U20 Champs.

James Groocock

Although much of his sseason was blighted by injury James achieved some fine indoor and early season performances which ensured that he ended the season ranked 3rd Nationally in the U20 Long Jump.

Tom Gowans

Tom produced a series of high quality sprint times, proving to be equally effective over 100m or 200m. Tom was, during 2008 one of the leasding U13 sprinters in the UK.

Emily Jenkinson

Emily simply blew away most of her competition throughout the season. In achieving performances that rank her in teh top 4 in the U13 800m, 1200m and 1500m Emily has shown immense promise for the future.

Freya Jones

By no means a stranger to this award Freya has once again been totally dominant in her event of the Javelin. SHe was unbeaten in all Championships and topped another sensational season by breaking the UK U15 Age Group record.

Sian Scott

Sian returned to her best this season where her time in the 400m Hurdles ranked her fifth in the national senior rankings and in winning the UK Challenge event she showed her true competitive talent.

Outstanding Contribution 2008

Sarah Ellis

Not only was Sarah ever present this season but she had her best and most consistent in the Javelin where she too has ranked highly in the National standings. Her willingness to travel great distance to compete for us and then to take on extra events is an example of the spirit needed at Club level.

Vickie Foster

Vickie has competed for us for many seasons and is simply one of the most reliable and consistent Senior Women athletes we have. Tell her where the match is and Vickie will simply turn up and get on - even in the throwing events she doesn't particularly enjoy. Vickie's continued contribution is priceless and not necessarily appreciated by those who cannot see beyond the markings on the track. This award at least goes some way to recognising her contribution.

Justin Hunt

Justin was the top scoring male athlete in both the NYAL and the Wessex League and is ever willing to compete in a range of events when a gap has needed to be filled - his contribution has covered more than one season and has been of a consistently good standard.

Gareth Price

Not only has Gareth competed in each British League match this season, where he contributed a highly impressive points total in the sprints, but also through his performances in the Welsh Championships (U20 100 & 200 Champion) ensured that Team Southampton finished in 7th place in the Welsh Medal table! Not bad as the only Welsh representative of an English Club!

Ben Richardson

Ben was the highest scoring British League Athletes this year and, despite the fact that he is away at University, ws committed to helping us to push for promotion in the BAL.

Becky Tune

Becky now has the distinction of having competed for us in every single Senior Women's event. We couldn't begin to add up her points contribution over many seasons - from her specialist Pole Vault, through all the other jumps, the throws (where she excels at the Hammer), the Middle Distance (including the 3000m), the sprints and finally the 400m Hurdles - Becky has done them all and whilst smiling. Perhaps her greatest contribution is yet to come - Becky is pregnant and, as Tune junior is due in April, she is anticipating making some of next season as well.

Fiona Webb

Often overshadowed by the athletic exploits of her daughters Fiona has quitely contributed much to the Club in her work in the Club portacabin. She has, with husband Des, been willing to take on the thankless task of organising Club Social events as well as officiating for us.

The actual award was a plaque but I have no photo :(
