Jantathlon 2004 Results (10/09/04)

The results of the 4th annual Jantathlon are now available.

Points are based on the official Decathlon, Heptathlon e.t.c results. Where track events are not in the Decathlon, Heptathlon e.t.c their points' formulas are calculated from events which are by plotting graphs of known event coefficients and interpolating from a 2nd order polynomial obtained from the method of least squares curve fitting. I only say this because I was asked so many times. This year also features a 'Feminine Equality Factor' which lowers women's scores by about 10% but even that wasn't good enough to help us men!

This years Jantathlon was a hotly contested event with the top 3 place finishers all getting what would have been Jantathlon Bests for their points totals on any other day! Jantathlon Bests were set in no less than 6 events out the possible 12 (Male & Female) with in many cases more than one person getting below the 2003 Jantathlon Best (Indicated by the red figures below). Congratulations go to this years winner Cat, who became the first Jantathlete to break the 3000 point barrier, not satisfied however she claimed "My only decent event was the 600, the rest were crap!". Calls have been made by 2nd place and 3rd finishers Darryn and Bryan to analyse the fairness of the scoring after they were beaten by a 15 year old girl.

Last years golden girl, Donna Chatting, made a strong effort on day 1 of the competition getting a JB in the 50m and either equalling or coming very close to her last years effort in the HJ and LJ, despite her recurring injury problems vanishing mysteriously on day 2 she had to concede her crown after an abismal performance in the 600m. Special mentions should be given to Darryn Campbell and Bryan Barnes who between them managed the 6 first places available and 2 JBs, Darryn taking all the track events and Bryan all the field.

The awesome combination of Wevill and Horton proved very strong competition and was always a contender for the medals. Ben Richardson, 2nd going into day 2 faded badly in his two worst events managing only 76 points in the 600m and Javelin combined! Further down the field the White brothers battled it out throughout the competition exchanging places frequently over the competition, however it was Stuart who faltered in the 600m while his Brother took almost 400 more points in the event to claim victory.

Special mention should also go to Jess who managed to better the girls 600m best by about 10 seconds despite returning from Holiday on the morning of the competition, and to Vic who has the excuse that he was also helping to officiate the competition aswell as compete!
