Team Southampton NATYAL Promotion Push

Team Southampton To Push for Promotion to Southern Premier Division

Team Southampton Young Athletes currently competing in the National Young Athletes League have so far competed in Wycombe, Portsmouth and Southampton twice, out of those 4 matches they have won 3 and come a very close second in their other match.

With one match to go they currently sit 2nd in the League table:
National Young Athletes League (Div S1W)
Results after 4 Matches, Updated 4th July
1 Reading AC173116
2 Team Southampton172415
3 Wycombe Phoenix 1600 15
4City of Portsmouth1424.513

with the top two clubs gaining promotion into the Southern Premier league Team Southmampton is by no means safe as they currently sit on equal match points with Wycombe Phoenix. In order to ensure promotion they must win their final match at home on 22nd July 2007 against Guildford & Godalming (7th), Dacorum & Tring (9th) & Guernsey / Jersey (12th) and end up on a higher competition points total than Wycombe Phoenix (which is quite likely given our 124 point advantage).

Should the juniors gain promotion it would be the first time we have been in the premier division since I was in the league back in the late nineties.

This excellent performance has been made possible thanks in no small part to the merger of Southampton City AC and Team Solent back in October 2004 bringing together two heritages of strong young athletics in the region.

In the fight for the most points earned for the club in the National Young Athletes League this year, Chris Dennis and Scott Legg are currently the top performing boys, both on 38 points. Anna Stevens heads the Girls with 43 points. Full Top Scorers are available from the Top Scorers Page.

Best of luck to our Athletes
