Norwich Union are offering grant money to projects throughout the country and the amount they are awarding depends entirely on the number of votes our initiative receives, the grants are as follows:
- £1000 - Achieve 50 Votes
- £12,500 - Get the most votes in your region - we are against the Winchester Track and Milton Keynes athletics equipment amongst others

The full text of our proposal is below but it can be read at the joinourteam.com site:
Team Southampton is an athletic club formed in 2004 as the result of a merger between Team Solent and Southampton City. As a club it covers all aspects of the sport, all levels and all age groups from 11+ to veterans.
Members of the two previous clubs, together with the merger, have achieved success at Olympic, European and Commonwealth championships, whilst teams compete in the British Athletic League, the UK Women’s League, Southern Leagues and the National Young Athletes League. In the winter cross country, road running and indoor competitions are all covered.
The principal venue for club activities is Southampton Sports Centre which although a very attractive location has little to offer other than its track and field facilities. As a result most club affairs, especially in the track season, operate from three club owned porter cabins.
Since the merger it has been the coaching aim to improve standards, and the numbers involved, thus raising competition levels. In the same way a detailed club plan has looked to increase and train the number of volunteers.
The conversion of one porter cabins for computer and video analysis, together with a reference library, will help to raise standards for coaches, officials and athletes.
It will also be suitable for small workshop activities and mentoring. It is hoped that this facility could be made available on occasions to the wider athletic community.
Bronze Award: For the porter cabin to be used as a resource centre, considerable conversion will be required. £1000 will enable the redesign and conversion to be carried out.
Silver / Gold Awards: This would enable the project to be fully completed, including the purchase of equipment and enhancing security.
Footnote:
In our application to Norwith Union we called it a Portakabin, because that's what it says on the side... apparently though we were mistaken and Norwich Union have helpfully changed it into a 'porter cabin' for us... so next time you need your blocks carrying up to the top car park just pop into the club 'porter cabin' and get someone else to do it for you(!)
