Emsworth to Basingstoke Relay

Basingstoke Charity Relay Race ( The Wayfarers)
Saturday the 14th May 2011. 50 Miles Emsworth to Basingstoke
In aid of Organisers nominated Charity (To be advised)

Last year the Club entered three teams i.e. Mens, Ladies and mixed.
For the second year running the men and ladies won their categories. Therefore; as defending champions, it is important that we field strong teams in order to beat off the threat of Basingstoke. However; please do not be put off because you are not a fast runner, most of the teams are there for the fun and the challenge of the course. There have been and no doubt will be again this year, the situation where the hares are beaten by the tortoises because they failed to check the route.

For the uninitiated, the race starts at Emsworth Harbour near Havant and eighteen legs later finishes near Basingstoke. The teams are of six. All run the first leg and then the fun starts. The rest are divided up and so five run a further three times and one only twice. It is almost entirely off road and therefore to recce the course beforehand is essential. You cover some of the more picturesque areas of Hampshire.
(Details can be found on their website i.e.( www.emsworthrelay.co.uk ).
Last year Basingstoke and Mid Hants entered an under nineteen mixed team. They gave the senior runners quite a scare and had their map reading been a bit better, they would probably have been the first team home.
So, is there a team manager, coach or parent out there willing to put together a team to challenge them or for that matter anyone else.

We all know how quickly time can fly and I would stress the importance of checking the course in advance. Would anyone interested in the event contact one of the following by the end of March, thus leaving six weeks to organise teams and transport.
