Marathon des Sables 2011

Support Southampton A.C. athletes in the Marathon des Sables

As most of you will no doubt be aware, in April, Emyr Morgan, Sally & Kevin Gilbert, Jo Kitley, Trent House and Becky Mulley travel to Morocco to take part in the Marathon des Sables 2011.

Usually described as 'the toughest footrace on earth', the MdS is a race of approximately 152 miles run over 6 days across the Sahara desert, equivalent to about 6 regular marathons. The run will take us on uneven, rocky, and stony ground, as well as sand dunes. We will have to be self-sufficient for the duration of the race, carrying all our own food, clothing, medical kit, sleeping bags, etc. in our backpacks. Only water and tents are provided along the way. We will also have to prepare all our own food throughout the race and will experience mid-day temperatures of up to 50¼C.

We have decided to raise sponsorship for Smile4Rich (an appeal for the Wessex Neurological Trust based at Southampton General Hospital) and Medecins Sans Frontieres. If you would like to sponsor us, then please go to: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/sotonmds

Thank you!
