24 Hour Run

24 Hour Relay run Report

The 24.....25 hour continuous relay for the Pakistan flood victims & Active Nation (Pole Vault) was a tremendous success for the newly merged club. Officials & runners turned out in style. 140 runners ran day and night covering a fantastic 661 miles (2642.5 laps) and raising £700.

Such was the success that people are already talking about doing it again next year and involving the public and other clubs too. The portacabin was manned throughout the night with tea and coffee and delicious donated cakes in plenty for all the runners and walkers. Rob Kelf from Active Nation completed a marathon (106 laps!) and other clubs did their bit too with Toby Lambert from Winchester running 81 laps and the Matingleys from Lordshill coming down three times to help us.

The public were involved including five Romanian students coming to help the Pakistan flood victims; the Fogg family running 9 miles between them and other members of the public just asking what we were doing and then joining in.

Our own club were magnificent making sure there was always someone on the track. The top 10 amounts of laps run by SAC members were Sophie Hall (70), Jim Bennett (64), Malcolm Riddle (60), David Blackman (50),Jon Grainger (48), Jason Barkes (43), Keith Hollis (40), Paul Warn (40), John Macinnes (40), Soph Boot (39).

There was a tremendous effort from many of the juniors in the club, namely U13 Owen Lawrence (15 laps); U15 Jack Spencer (24 laps); U17 Paul Warn (40 laps), Leah Griffin (24 laps), Daena Bennett (21 laps), Martin Campbell (20 laps); U20 Jenny Beckingham (32 laps) and Issie Kidson (20 laps). Well done to Rosie Hill (5 years) who completed 7 laps and to Jess Tilt and Frances Arnott who ran in the early hours of the morning!!

We organised this event at short notice (8 days), but next year it will hopefully turn into a mega event. Watch this space!!
